The Looking Crass

Welcome to The Looking Crass…

What exactly is The Looking Crass? Its a self-loving play on words with my name (Glass), the Lewis Carroll classic “Through the Looking Glass,” and the word “crass.” I have long been a fan of Alice and her rabbit hunt. Sometime later I learned of the word crass by an old punk band. Should they play on your device of choice…you will mute or change it. By definition, “crass,” is a word used to describe something that is lacking sensitivity, refinement, or intelligence. The word crass has a negative context, tell me why? If we soften the truth enough because of sensitivity, is it still true? If we refine it to make it more digestible, does it become dishonest? I’ll just leave omission…unmentioned. If I Tweedle-Dee ideas, does it make me Tweedle-Dum wholesale? Challenge accepted, hearts in one hand and shards in the other.       

I am going to write. The goal of this sinister smile of observation is to engage with the uncomfortable spaces, and people, that go unmentioned in our everyday lives. Some of the topics we will tumble down are gender differences, American culture, various traumas, intimacy, spirituality and religion, mental health, love/romance relationships, substance use (use, abuse, and addiction), mortality, under-discussed emotional spaces, well-being, and something I’ve started calling “collective dishonesty.” These writings will vary from editorials, personal experience “under-shares,” reality-driven fiction, satire/comedy, and certainly dis-track-in-print which I warmly call a flamethrower.

At times this tea party will have overtones of arsenic and I make no apologies for my off-with-their-head style delivery. I openly tell friends that if they use logic they can win any argument/disagreement. If you think I’m off-base, there is always an open spot on this chessboard. I know some people are still passionate about who we are. But I will tell you a secret…all the best people are.
